When you’re ready for an unusual vacation, I’m the travel consultant for you. My own trips are far from the cookie-cutter variety, and that’s just the sort of adventure I enjoy planning for others. By trying something new, you get a chance to meet people from different places, experience different cultures and learn about different lifestyles. If my clients are a little apprehensive about stepping outside of the box, I share my own experiences as a way of encouragement. For instance, I don’t speak Russian, but I learned how to communicate in other ways while traveling through that country, and as a result I know Moscow better than some people who actually live there. Another great way to break out of the norm is to visit foreign grocery stores, something I try to do no matter where I find myself.

Since I started designing travel 12 years ago, I have become well-versed in a variety of destinations that pique my own curiosity. Some, like Morocco and Jordan, may be obscure, but if someone asks about them, I’m ready to create a thoughtful and thorough itinerary to meet their needs. As we sit down and chat, clients will come up with ideas based on what their friends have done. Meanwhile, I’ll suggest other possibilities, and through a lively give-and-take combined with my own evaluation, the clients always end up with a satisfying vacation customized just for them.

My around-the-world travels have included a train trip from Beijing across Mongolia, where I visited a family living in a yurt; a trip to Turkey to watch the solar eclipse from a beach, followed by explorations of Jordan (yes, I rode a camel); and a driving expedition across northern France, including stops at World War I battlefields, cemeteries and memorials. That’s what I mean when I say unusual. For me, it’s the only way to go!
